Venice and Le Biennale

Tue Nov 3, 2009, 9:04 AM
Yesterday I returned from Venice after having spent 3 days there. The city itself is very beautiful, but somewhat dull in my opinion. During the time I was there I visited an art exhibition that is called Le Biennale. I had heard many good things about it, so I went to see it. What I saw there made me very dissapointed and angry, because there was not a single piece of art in the entire exhibition that could be found even remotely esthetically attractive, because the only art there was the "modern" and "contemporary" art that was more focused on having a deep symbolism than actually being beautiful. Everywhere that I went everything was described like "symbolizing the malleability of our "Built-Up" society" and other idiotic things! A great example is one piece that consisted of 5-6 walking canes that had been suspended on sheets of plexiglas in the air. The description read that the artists with this piece "took an object found in everyday life and isolated it from it's natural environment"! So if I take the chair I am right now sitting on and suspend it upside down in the air in an otherwise completely blank room, it's art!? Mind you, I have nothing against art that has a deeper meaning, but that deeper meaning can never, NEVER be put before the sheer attractiveness of the piece.

My name is Love Arvidsson. I live in Stockholm, Sweden and my main interest is different kinds of Hip-Hop dance. I've been doing New Style for almost 6 years and I teach some basic coreographies in my school. I mix the songs that I dance to myself, and I've recorded two songs that I've written myself. Aside from dancing I draw on my free time, mostly different cartoony characters. Currently I'm aspiring to get my Dude character into a flash animation. :P
